Salman H.

Salman is originally from New York City and currently holds a B.S. in neuroscience from NYU where he completed the premed track. He is currently a 4th year medical student at the Boston University School of Medicine.

Much of his passion for tutoring stems from his experiences growing up in an underserved community where medical care was neglected due to affordability and lack of access, especially in his own family that was on government support and at risk of homelessness. He developed a deep understanding of the effects these factors can have on one’s health as well as how they view the healthcare system. His exposure to the inherent distrust and hopelessness that many people held inspired his journey through medicine, led primarily for a desire for change. He strives to address this change not only at the medical level, but also at the level of community. Amongst other things, he has tutored children in his neighborhood to help them escape the cycles of poverty that he saw growing up. He hopes to spark in them that same desire for bringing change to the communities that raised him.

In addition to his volunteer work raising awareness for the importance of education in his community, he has served as a premed tutor and mentor for underclassmen also on the premed track at NYU. He continues to serve as a tutor at the Boston University School of Medicine, tutoring and advising first and second year medical students as they navigate medical school.

In all, Salman has over 8 years of tutoring at the middle school, high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate level. He takes pride in his meticulously thought out lesson plans that are tailored to each student’s individual needs and passions, as well as in his ability to not only effectively teach, but to also spark a passion for learning in his students. He has tutored across a variety of standardized tests as well, including the SHSAT, SAT, ACT, MCAT, and USMLE Step 1.
