Mike D.

Mike earned a BA in Government from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and a JD from Fordham Law School in New York City. During his time at Georgetown, Mike interned on Capitol Hill for then-US Senator John Kerry and was active in student government. At Fordham Law, Mike was a teaching assistant for the Legal Writing Program, helping first-year law students write their very first legal briefs.

Over the course of his career, Mike has worked at law firms, on political campaigns, as a freelance writer, and as a tutor and teacher. Among Mike’s teaching experiences are working as an English teacher for ESL students in Seoul, South Korea; helping students with their college admissions essays and SAT, ACT and AP exams; and working with students to develop their reading and writing skills.

Mike is available to work with students on executive function, homework support, and writing, and his tutoring philosophy is that the best outcomes result from the tutor and student working together as partners to define goals, set targets, and stay nimble, trying new approaches when old methods fall short. He likes to incorporate humor and fun into his approach and aims to keep his students grounded in the real world, rather than simply the black-and-white fustiness of textbooks.

In his spare time, Mike loves to write, swim, and play tennis. He is an experienced traveler and has lived and traveled all over Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and Oceania. He is near fluent in Spanish and makes a mean burrito, and looks forward to working with you!
