Joshua L.

Joshua attended Northwestern University in 2010 to pursue a degree in Biological Sciences. He also attended Washington University in St. Louis in 2015 for a Master’s in Public Health. As someone who started tutoring students during his junior year of high school, helping students achieve significant academic improvements is critical for his continued passion for teaching.

Joshua began tutoring in 2008 through his high school academic assistance program, jump starting a long career working with a variety of students from various backgrounds. This continued throughout his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, as he ran tutoring classes for fellow undergraduate students enrolled in the intermediate biology courses. During this experience, he was able to prepare, tutor, and mentor incoming tutors on how to run successful tutor classes and what it takes to be the best assistance to their students. The tutoring did not end after graduation, as Joshua continued to help students improve their academic performances by working at tutoring companies like C2 Education and Huntington Learning Center. From the companies, he developed and honed the abilities to help with standardized test prep for the ACT, SAT, SAT II, and AP exams. In the process of tutoring for over 10 years, he has helped students in a variety of mathematics and science subjects, ranging from introductory classes like pre-algebra and intro biology to advanced placement classes like AP Calculus BC and AP Physics. Having worked with students in regular and honors/AP classes but also with students with learning disabilities, he makes sure to make each tutoring session about the students. This means that adaptations to each student’s learning patterns and perspectives is a must.

Making the move from Chicago, Illinois to Boston, MA during the late summer of 2018, Joshua takes his free time to learn more about the history of Boston and what Massachusetts has to offer. He likes to use the wide-spread public transportation network to travel all around the Boston and Greater Boston areas to see and try new things, including the vast network of ethnic foods from all around the world. As much as Joshua likes to help students improve educationally, he doesn’t forget to improve his health, spending lots of days in the gym working on strength and conditioning. Continued self-improvement motivates him to have a continued passion to help other students to improve themselves.
