Sarah K.
Sarah has been a public school educator for 18 years and counting. While she has taught students in grades 7 through 11, she currently teaches 10th and 11th grade English, including AP Literature classes. Her experience teaching a wide-range of diverse learners equips her with tools and strategies to help students succeed. She likes to create a comfortable learning environment where students can take risks and ask questions. Her passion is helping students become confident communicators and courageous critical thinkers.
She earned three degrees that shaped her teaching practice: a Bachelor of Arts in English from Penn State University, a Master of Arts in English from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Simmons University. However, the experience in the classroom motivates her to keep learning, so she can be the best educator she can be. Her current professional development focuses on adolescent literacy and reading strategies.
Growing up in Boston and attending a Big 10 school, Sarah passionately watches sports, especially the Boston Bruins and, of course, Penn State football. In her free time, she plays golf recreationally (and poorly), and she enjoys being active. In addition to outdoor activities, Sarah reads fiction and poetry; she loves cooking, baking (yes, she has a 2020 sourdough starter) and traveling. Locally, she explores new areas–especially beaches–and as a former barista, she readily tries espresso at any new coffee shop.
Sarah looks forward to collaborating with students to coach them through writing their college essays. Additionally, she can support students in the following areas: English, History, AP Literature exam prep, SAT Reading and Writing, and executive function coaching.
